This lighthouse and ship control station sit atop the cliff at the narrowest stretch (35 miles wide) of the Malacca Strait. In the Malay language, "Tanjung" means "point" and "Tuan" is an honorific title meaning (among other definitions) "Boss." With radar and radio the controllers here keep track of big ships passing by, but don't bother to contact yachts. We often listened to their conversations just in case something might affect us. |
